Your Guide To Yorkies: Yorkshire Terrier Grooming
Yorkshire Terriers make great pets, but you should be educated on the matter of Yorkshire Terrier grooming before getting one of these dogs for yourself. This is because this breed of dog requires a lot more care and maintenance than most other breeds, a fact that many people are not aware of. If you are a very busy person then you may want to consider another breed because you will not be able to devote the time on grooming that these dogs need.
Although the grooming processes do take up a lot of time, they are easy enough to do on your own, which is one great advantage. This means that you can basically do the entire job yourself and not have to worry about paying someone else, namely a professional groomer, to do the work for you. There are many different processes that a Yorkie requires to stay properly groomed and a few in particular that are especially important.
There are a few things in particular that are very important to remember when it comes to Yorkshire Terrier grooming. The first is choosing a shampoo. There are literally hundreds of different dog shampoos on the market today that you can choose from, but you do want to make sure that you choose the right one. Many people make the mistake of thinking that just because the Yorkie’s hair is similar to humans that they can use human shampoo, but this is a bad idea.
Human shampoo is much too strong for dogs, and will tend to leave their skin flaky and dry. You should try and get a tearless shampoo so that if you do ever accidentally get any in their eyes it will not hurt as much. Remember never to leave your puppy unattended in the bath, just as with a child, and make sure that you have everything you are going to need ready and standing by before you get the dog into the tub.
The bottom line is that as long as you are aware of what Yorkshire Terrier grooming entails and are sure you will be able to provide this care to your dog, then the Yorkie will make a great pet for you. One trick is to give your pet a Yorkshire Terrier puppy cut, as this will keep the hair shorter and required less time each day grooming. You also want to make sure that you have all of the necessary grooming tools and products on hand and ready to go before you get the dog and bring them home, so that you are completely prepared for their arrival.
If you ever find that you are not comfortable with parts of the grooming process or simply do not have the time, there are professionals available that you can hire to do the work for you. You will be paying a fee for this each time however and so this can really add up. Grooming your dog is also a great way to spend some time with them and bond with them, so you should really take advantage of it and make the most of it.
Although there are a few different jobs that should be included in your Yorkshire Terrier grooming process, brushing should be the most important. You will need the appropriate Yorkshire Terrier grooming supplies if you want to groom your Yorkie properly.
